Southfork Ranch Texas

Southfork Ranch, Texas

Posted on July 21, 2014September 26, 2024 by Mrs. Padilly

HOME OF J. R. EWING

Although the TV series “Dallas” aired in the 1980’s, this is still a favorite roadside attraction in Texas.  I’ve been to the Southfork Ranch many times, and find that people come from all over the world to visit the ranch.  In fact, on my last visit there were more international travelers than locals.

TRAVEL PHOTOS, TRIVIA, & TIPS:

The ranch is located north-northwest, 27 miles from the heart of Dallas.

Take the tour of the home.  It is worth it the cost, but don’t be surprised if your perception of this grand old ranch changes.

Lots of TV memories around this pool.

Did you know that J.R. Ewing’s initials came from the character Jett Rink, played by James Dean in the 1956 movie classic Giant? Good question to ask your tour guide. You can read a little about it on my article on Prada Marfa.

Make sure you walk down the famed driveway towards the street. Some of my favorite memories from the series is the Lincoln Continental driving up to the ranch. You can see the car during your tour.

And once you reach the end of the driveway, turn around for the your best photo of the ranch.

Make sure to take time to walk the grounds, and take in beauty of this property.

I was not going to leave my tour until I got a photo at the patio table!

This is a PAID attraction.
