The Year I Became a Glamper – Mrs Padillys Travels

The Year I Became a Glamper

It all started with a Casita

Mrs. Padilly's Casita Travel Trailer "Free Range"

In 2014, I entered the world of “glamping” with the purchase of my 2006 Casita Travel Trailer, and as you see from the photos below, it was showing its age.

Before Casita's Kitchen and Bed Makeover

The trailer had yellowing floors, rust the on fridge and cooktop, carpeted walls that were anything but fresh, and Casita’s trademark brown vinyl MDF cabinet doors.

But after a few weeks of hard work, I transformed my Casita into a bright, relaxed retreat; my perfect glamping camper!

When the project was complete, I had:

  • Cleaned the carpet
  • Chalk painted the MDF doors
  • Made no-sew drapes for the windows
  • Installed a glass tile backsplash the kitchen
  • Updated old rusty appliances with a fresh coat of paint
  • Installed new vinyl flooring
  • Added a stenciled chandelier to the screen door
  • Added Glampy Accessories

#2 – Chalk Painting the Cabinet Doors

I LOVE chalk paint, and this was one of my favorite projects! It is amazing what a little paint will do. Bye-bye boring brown MDF!

#3 – Adding Teal Spray Paint to Old Appliance Surfaces

Paint saves the day again! This time I added it to a few surfaces that had some rust, and other surfaces for a colorful pop!

#4 – Installing a Tile Backsplash

I sorely needed a little glitter in my Casita, and I needed a real backsplash. I solved this problem with some glass, self-sticking tiles! Click the image to discover the one real mistake I made during my makeover!

#5 – Installing Wood Vinyl Flooring:

The flooring in my Casita was original, and it showed! Dull and yellow, it needed to go! However, since the original flooring was still securely attached to the sub-floor, I was able to use self-sticking vinyl planks, which I placed directly on top.

This project is the most read article on MrsPadillysTravels.com, with over 78,000 views as of July, 2018! Considering I’m not a flooring expert, this project turned out better than I anticipated.

If I can do it, so can you! Apparently my readers agree!

#6 – Decorating the Screen Door:

This how-to article competes with my vinyl flooring article for number of readers, and the project happened by accident! What Glamper doesn’t love a chandelier?

I am no seamstress, but I love to make window treatments – especially the NO SEW versions!
